Richard’s Rooftop is the most exclusive space on any Virgin Voyages ship, and it’s one of the most compelling arguments for booking a RockStar suite. Located at the very bow of the ship on Deck 15-16, this private outdoor lounge is accessible only to Sailors wearing the black RockStar wristband — roughly 6% of any given sailing. The result is a space that never feels crowded, never feels rushed, and offers something genuinely rare on a ship carrying nearly 3,000 passengers: solitude, with spectacular views.

The Space
Richard’s Rooftop spans both port and starboard sides at the front of the ship, giving panoramic forward-facing ocean views from every vantage point. The design includes two large hot tubs, trampoline-style lounger beds, circular beds, sofa-style seating, and the Richard’s Rooftop Bar — a dedicated bar serving exclusively the RockStar guests in residence. At the Bimini Beach Club, RockStar guests also access the separate RockStar Retreat area with dedicated loungers, seating, a private bar, and tableside lunch service.

Access is controlled by the black Sailor Band issued to RockStar guests at check-in. No black band, no entry. No exceptions.
Sunset Happy Hour
The centerpiece of the Richard’s Rooftop experience is the daily Sunset Happy Hour, held from 5 to 6pm. During this hour, RockStar guests enjoy complimentary drinks — including Moët champagne (typically $25/glass), a curated selection of cocktails, spirits, canned beers, and wines. The happy hour menu has expanded significantly since its launch and now includes a wide range of options beyond just champagne.

When weather prevents the rooftop from being used, Sunset Happy Hour relocates to Sip Lounge. RockStar Agents notify guests via the app when this occurs. The drinks and exclusivity remain the same regardless of venue.
Is It Worth the Suite Upgrade?
Richard’s Rooftop is one of the most tangible perks of a RockStar suite booking, and for many Sailors it tips the decision. The Sunset Happy Hour alone — two people, one cocktail each at $16-18 per drink, every evening of a 7-night sailing — represents $224-$252 in bar value included in the suite rate. Add the hot tubs, the uncrowded space, the panoramic views, and the elevated social atmosphere, and Richard’s Rooftop delivers meaningful value well beyond the math.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- Arrive at Sunset Happy Hour a few minutes early. The best spots — forward-facing with the widest ocean views — fill quickly once the hour begins.
- Use it throughout the day, not just at happy hour. Richard’s Rooftop is open all day. A morning coffee with forward views of the horizon before anyone else is awake is one of the great undiscovered pleasures of a RockStar booking.
- The hot tubs at Richard’s Rooftop are never crowded. Compare this to the main pool deck hot tubs on a sea day. The contrast is significant.
