Redemption Spa is one of the most genuinely impressive wellness features on any Virgin Voyages ship, but it’s also where Sailors most commonly spend money they didn’t need to spend, miss discounts they didn’t know existed, or book at times that made the experience worse than it could have been. Having sailed Virgin Voyages multiple times and helped many Sailors plan their spa strategy, Joel and Erin have specific, practical guidance on how to get the most from Redemption Spa without overpaying or undershooting.
Timing: When to Book Treatments
Embarkation day: Head to Redemption Spa within the first hour of boarding. A 15% discount is often available on treatments booked and received on Day 1. This is real money — on a $229 massage, that’s $34 saved. These slots fill fast.

Port days: Book your Thermal Suite passes on port days ($59 vs $79 on sea days). The suite is also significantly less crowded during port calls, giving you a more private and peaceful experience.
Avoid sea day afternoons: This is when Thermal Suite and treatment demand peaks. If sea day spa visits are important to you, book morning slots rather than afternoons.
Late evening: The Thermal Suite is nearly empty after 9pm. For the most tranquil, private Thermal Suite experience, evening sessions are the insider move.

Booking Windows
Treatment pre-booking opens at different times based on fare tier: 120 days out for RockStar guests, 60 days for Premium, 45 days for Essential, 15 days for Base and Lock-It-In. If a specific treatment matters to you — particularly on a sea day — book the moment your window opens. The most popular slots go within days.
What to Book
The Salvation Swedish Massage is the most consistently praised treatment in the spa. The Thermal Suite is worth experiencing at least once on any sailing of 5 nights or more. The Splash of Romance package is excellent value for couples who would have done the Thermal Suite anyway.
What to Skip (or Approach Carefully)
Medi Spa services (Botox, fillers) are best for Sailors who already know and trust these treatments from land-based providers. Skip as a first-time experience. Acupuncture is a legitimate wellness service but best for Sailors who have responded well to it before. The cruise ship context isn’t ideal for discovering whether acupuncture works for you.
Payment Strategy
Sailor Loot covers all spa services. Bar Tab does not. Ensure your Sailor Loot balance is funded before you arrive at the spa desk. If you received promotional Sailor Loot with your booking, this is one of the best ways to use it.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- The embarkation day discount is the single most overlooked spa opportunity on any Virgin Voyages sailing. Go directly from your cabin to Redemption Spa on Day 1.
- Ask the spa team to show you the sign-up sheet. Thermal Suite availability is tracked on a physical or digital sign-up sheet at reception. Asking to see it tells you exactly which slots are open and which are full.
- Don’t over-schedule. The spa is best enjoyed with time to linger, not as a box to check between other activities. One great Thermal Suite session is worth more than three rushed ones.
