Cruise ship gyms have a reputation problem — a few treadmills facing a wall, some dumbbells that haven’t been updated since 2004, and a persistent smell of recirculated air. The B-Complex on every Virgin Voyages ship is something entirely different: a full-service fitness complex on Deck 15 with dramatic ocean views from virtually every piece of equipment, split across dedicated zones for cardio, strength training, yoga, and group classes, with a juice bar steps away when you’re done.

It’s the kind of gym that makes people actually use it on vacation. Which, if you’ve been on other cruise ships, is a remarkable achievement.
The Layout

The B-Complex is divided into three distinct areas:
B-Complex Training Camp (Cardio): The cardio-focused side of the gym, equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym ARTIS cardio machines — treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes — all with ocean-facing screens and views. This is also the primary venue for HIIT group classes and high-intensity programming. The Training Camp is also where the on-demand fitness app operates for Sailors who want a solo workout outside class times.
B-Complex Build + Balance (Strength and Yoga): The strength and non-cardio zone, housing free weights, weight machines, functional training equipment, exercise balls, and the Balance Studio — a dedicated space for yoga, meditation, bungee fitness, and mind-body classes. The Balance Studio is where most group class programming happens outside of HIIT and cycling.

Cycling Studio (Spin): A dedicated cycling studio with Technogym bikes, ocean views, and instructor-led spin classes that Sailors consistently rate among the most intense fitness experiences on the ship. SPD cleats are compatible; Delta cleats are not.
Equipment
Virgin Voyages equipped the B-Complex with Technogym ARTIS — one of the most respected commercial fitness equipment brands globally. The difference between Technogym and standard cruise ship gym equipment is immediately apparent in feel, smoothness, and available programming. Free weights, cable machines, functional training rigs, yoga mats, foam rollers, and resistance equipment round out the non-cardio offering.
Personal training sessions ($119/60 min) and the EVOLT360 Body Composition Analysis ($119/60 min) are available for Sailors who want professional guidance or a detailed fitness assessment during their voyage.
The Group Class Schedule
All group fitness classes at the B-Complex are included in your cruise fare. The schedule varies by sailing and is published in the Virgin Voyages app once you board. Classes run from early morning (sunrise yoga, guided meditation) through the day and into the afternoon. Book your preferred classes in the app immediately on embarkation day — popular classes like bungee fitness have limited spots and fill quickly.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- The ocean views from the cardio equipment are genuine. Running on a treadmill with an open-water horizon in front of you is fundamentally different from running in a gym at home. Use it.
- Book the bungee class immediately. Only seven spots per session. It fills within hours of the schedule being published. If bungee is on your list, make it your first booking in the app.
- Early morning in the B-Complex is peaceful. Before 7am, the gym is largely empty. If you value a quiet, uncrowded workout environment, the early slot is yours.
