New York Sailings: Bermuda, Canada, and New England on Virgin Voyages

Valiant Lady’s 2026 New York season brings Virgin Voyages to the Manhattan cruise terminal for a series of sailings that serve the enormous Northeast US market with direct, no-flight access to the Virgin Voyages experience. The New York season runs in spring (April) and fall (September-October 2026), bookending the peak summer Mediterranean season with sailings to Bermuda, the Canadian Maritimes, and New England.

The Bermuda Sailings

The 5-night Bermuda round-trip from New York is Valiant Lady’s flagship NYC itinerary. The sail from Manhattan to Bermuda takes approximately two days each way, giving two full sea days in each direction plus one or two days in Bermuda. The overnight in Hamilton, Bermuda allows for both a full day on the island’s pink sand beaches and an evening in the island’s restaurants and nightlife before returning to the ship.

Bermuda’s pink sand beaches (the color comes from crushed coral and shell fragments mixed with white sand), the crystal clarity of the water, and the distinctive British-colonial-meets-Caribbean atmosphere of Hamilton make it one of the most characterful destinations accessible from New York.

Canada and New England

Longer New York itineraries (7-9 nights) include:

  • Canada & New England: Boston, Eastport (Maine), Saint John (New Brunswick), Halifax (Nova Scotia) — the fall foliage season makes September-October the prime time for this itinerary.
  • Canada & Québec: Extended itinerary adding Québec City to the Canadian Maritime circuit — one of the most beautiful cities in North America.

The Fall Foliage Advantage

The September-October timing of the NYC sailings coincides with peak fall foliage season in New England and Maritime Canada. The combination of the Virgin Voyages onboard experience and fall leaf color visible from the ship and in port is genuinely spectacular — and completely unlike any other Virgin Voyages sailing available. This is the itinerary for Sailors who want something definitively different from Caribbean or Mediterranean warmth.

NYC Port Access

Note for 2026: Virgin Voyages has moved its New York sailings to Brooklyn’s Red Hook Cruise Terminal after pier capacity issues at the Manhattan terminal. Brooklyn is easily accessible from Manhattan by taxi or Uber (15-20 minutes), and the Red Hook terminal is well-organized. Sailors staying in Manhattan before their sailing should factor the bridge or tunnel crossing into their departure timing.

Insider Tips from Joel and Erin

  • Arrive a day early and stay in Manhattan. If there’s one pre-cruise city in the US that deserves a full day of its own, it’s New York. The museums, food, neighborhoods, and energy justify extending your trip.
  • The fall Canada sailing is the most underrated itinerary in the fleet. October leaf color in Nova Scotia and Maine, Québec City’s extraordinary old city, and the Virgin Voyages experience applied to a northern latitude — extraordinary combination.
  • The Bermuda overnight is a genuine differentiator. An overnight in Hamilton means you stay out on the island after other visitors have returned to their ships. Evening Bermuda is significantly more atmospheric than daytime Bermuda.
