Virgin Voyages Dining Reservation Strategy: How to Get Every Restaurant You Want

Dining reservations on Virgin Voyages are competitive — and the system rewards Sailors who understand how it works and prepare accordingly. The 20+ restaurants are all included in your fare, but a reservation is required at the main dining venues, and the most popular spots fill quickly once windows open. This guide gives you the strategy to arrive with every restaurant you want already booked.

Know Your Window

Your dining reservation window depends on your fare tier (for bookings after October 7, 2025):

  • Lock It In and Base: 15 days before sailing. By this point, premium time slots at The Wake, Pink Agave, and Test Kitchen are often gone.
  • Essential: 45 days before sailing. The standard experience — competitive but workable with the right strategy.
  • Premium fare: 60 days before sailing. Best non-suite access window.
  • RockStar and Mega RockStar suites: 120 days before sailing. First access to all time slots at all restaurants.

Windows open at midnight Eastern Time (9 PM Pacific) the night before your designated day.

The 70/30 Rule

Virgin Voyages only releases approximately 30% of total dining capacity in the pre-voyage window. The other 70% opens when you board. This is intentional — Virgin Voyages wants dining to remain flexible and spontaneous onboard. The practical implication: if you miss your pre-voyage window or cannot get the times you want, do not panic. Board the ship, connect to WiFi immediately, and book the remaining slots before other Sailors who are still getting settled.

Priority Booking Order

Book in this order when your window opens:

  • The Wake: The single most popular restaurant on the fleet. Prime-time slots (7-8:30 PM) go first. Book this before any other restaurant.
  • Pink Agave: High demand, especially the Pescado Zarandeado ($55 supplement) evenings. Book second.
  • Test Kitchen: Limited seating and a rotating menu format make this the most exclusive dining experience on the ship. Book third.
  • Gunbae: The Korean BBQ format is uniquely social and extremely popular. Book early, especially if you are dining with a group.
  • Razzle Dazzle, Extra Virgin, Lucky Lotus/Rojo: Generally better availability. Book after securing the top four.

Reservation Rules

  • One reservation per night per booking (you cannot hold two restaurant bookings for the same evening)
  • On sailings up to 5 nights: one reservation per restaurant
  • 6-8 night sailings: two reservations per restaurant
  • 9+ nights: three reservations per restaurant
  • Brunch reservations do not count against your dinner slots
  • The Galley, Pizza Place, and The Dock are walk-in only (no reservations needed)

Walk-Ins and Same-Day Openings

Virgin Voyages restaurants accept walk-ins throughout each evening. Unclaimed reservations are released after approximately 15 minutes at the host stand — showing up at 7:45 PM for a 7:30 reservation that was abandoned often works. Check the app daily for newly released same-day slots as Sailors modify their plans.

Insider Tips from Joel and Erin

  • Have your full dining plan written out before your window opens. Know which restaurant you want each night, your preferred time, and your backup time before you touch the app. Decision-making under pressure at midnight leads to mistakes.
  • The Wake brunch is the most underbooked top experience on the ship. Brunch slots at The Wake are less competitive than dinner and deliver seafood towers, steak and eggs, and bottomless bubbles. Book brunch AND dinner.
  • Cancel reservations you are not using. If your plans change, cancel through the app so other Sailors can take your spot. The community reciprocates.
