Caribbean Destinations

The Caribbean is Virgin Voyages' home territory, and after living in Puerto Rico and sailing in and out of every major VV Caribbean port across two ships, we have strong opinions about all of it. We're Joel and Erin, certified First Mates, and these are the destinations we get asked about constantly. Here's the lay of the land.

Bimini, Bahamas — Home to Beach Club at Bimini, Virgin Voyages' private island destination. It's not "private island" in the cordoned-off mall sense — it's a genuinely beautiful beach setup with multiple pools, the RockStar Retreat sundeck, live music, a great beach grill, and direct sand access. Every Caribbean and Bahamas sailing stops here. Spend the day. It's already yours.

Grand Cayman — The signature Shore Thing is Stingray City, where you stand in waist-deep water on a sandbar while wild stingrays glide around you. It's iconic for a reason. Seven Mile Beach is the alternative if you'd rather just have a beach day. Tender port — bring a hat.

Ocho Rios / Falmouth, Jamaica — Dunn's River Falls is the classic climb-up-the-waterfall excursion. The Blue Hole is the increasingly popular alternative — quieter, more dramatic, better photos. Both are worth doing.

Bridgetown, Barbados — The sea turtle swim here is one of the best in the Caribbean. Crystal-clear water, large healthy green sea turtles, professional operators. Carlisle Bay is also home to several wrecks within snorkel distance.

Willemstad, Curaçao — The most architecturally interesting port on most Caribbean itineraries. The pastel Dutch colonial waterfront (Handelskade) is a UNESCO site. Mambo Beach, Klein Curaçao, and the floating Queen Emma Bridge are the highlights. Walk the old town in the morning, beach in the afternoon.

San Juan, Puerto Rico — This is our home port, so we know it cold. Old San Juan is one of the great walkable historic cities in the Americas — the forts (El Morro, San Cristóbal), the blue-cobblestone streets, the food (mofongo, pinchos, the bakery at La Bombonera). Castries, St. Lucia — The Pitons are the postcard view, Sulphur Springs is the drive-in volcano with mud baths, and the beach at Marigot Bay is the day-relaxation move. The whole island is dramatic. Plan a full-day excursion to see it.

King's Wharf, Bermuda — Pink sand at Horseshoe Bay Beach, the Crystal Caves, and the Royal Naval Dockyard. Bermuda often appears on Northeast US sailings out of New York.

Bimini Beach Club — The Private Island That's Already Yours

Beach Club at Bimini is included in your fare on every Bahamas and Caribbean sailing that stops there, which is most of them. You step off the ship onto the beach. There are multiple pools, a live music stage, a beach grill (still no upcharge — your Bar Tab covers the drinks, food is included), cabanas you can rent if you want a private setup, and the RockStar Beach Club sundeck for RockStar suite Sailors. The sand is white, the water is the absurd Bahamas turquoise, and the day always feels like the highlight of the voyage even when it isn't.
