Fitness & Activities

The fitness setup on Virgin Voyages is genuinely good — not "cruise ship gym with a few treadmills" good, but "real gym I'd pay for membership at home" good. We say this as two people who, like most Sailors, fully intend to work out every day of our voyage and then end up using the gym about three times, which is still three more times than we'd use most cruise ship gyms. We're Joel and Erin, and here's the activity lineup across the fleet.

B-Complex is the main gym and it is the single best fitness room we've ever seen on a ship. It has floor-to-ceiling forward-facing windows looking straight off the bow — so you're running on the treadmill watching the ocean part in front of you. Full free weights, Technogym strength machines, dedicated stretching area, functional training zone, the works. Crowded around 7-9 AM and 5-7 PM, dead at almost every other time.

The Yoga Perch is an outdoor yoga deck at the very front of the ship — covered, weather-friendly, with classes throughout the day. Sunrise yoga with the bow waves below you is a particular kind of perfect. Most classes are included.

Geezers is a full boxing studio with a ring and heavy bags. They run boxing classes, conditioning circuits, and personal sessions. Bring proper shoes if you plan to use it — flip-flops will not work here.

The Spin Studio runs scheduled classes throughout sea days with proper bikes and an instructor. The Athletic Club is the multi-court area for basketball, pickleball, and group classes. And the running track wraps the upper deck with 360-degree ocean views — a few laps in the early morning before the pools open is one of our favorite ways to start a sea day.

The B-Complex Gym — Working Out With the Ocean as Your View

If you're a regular gym-goer, B-Complex will surprise you. Full Olympic dumbbell rack up to a sensible weight, multiple cable stations, leg press, hack squat, smith machine, rowers, assault bikes, the bow-facing treadmills, full free-weight area with benches and squat racks. The flooring is real lifting flooring. There are towels, water, and the windows. Always the windows.

Gym & Tonic is the juice bar attached to the spa right next door — cold-pressed juices, protein smoothies, wellness shots, plus light food. Post-workout move: smoothie at Gym & Tonic, sauna in the Thermal Suite (with voyage pass), then deck breakfast at The Galley. It's a routine we have run more days than we can count.

One honest note: there is real irony in working out on a ship where the bars open at noon, the dining is unlimited, and you're consciously trying to gain "vacation weight." But for a lot of us, getting a daily workout in is what allows us to enjoy all the rest of it. The infrastructure is here. Use it as much or as little as you want, but it's there.
