Virgin Voyages' North American footprint has expanded steadily since launch. Originally it was Miami, Miami, and Miami. Now it's Miami plus New York, Baltimore, Norfolk, Boston, and seasonally Puerto Rico (our home base), with Brilliant Lady opening up Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. We're Joel and Erin, and these are the homeports and port calls we know cold.
Miami, Florida — The flagship Virgin Voyages homeport and still the best place to start a Virgin Voyage. PortMiami's Terminal V is the dedicated VV terminal — purpose-built for the brand, with the Sip & Sail bar at the terminal and an embarkation process that is genuinely faster than other lines. The city around the port is South Beach, Wynwood, Little Havana, Brickell — if you're flying in for a Miami sailing, add at least one night. Stay on Ocean Drive or in Brickell.
New York City — Cruise terminal is the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, with a few sailings also using the Manhattan terminal on the West Side. From Brooklyn, you're a short ride into Manhattan or you can walk to neighborhood spots in Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill. Add days on either side — New York rewards extra time.
Baltimore, Maryland — Newer homeport. Cruise Maryland Terminal. The Baltimore harbor area has improved a lot. The Inner Harbor, Fells Point, the National Aquarium, and crab cakes at Faidley's. Drive-to-port option for the Mid-Atlantic, which is increasingly a reason Sailors choose Baltimore over flying.
Norfolk, Virginia — Drive-to-port for the Southeast. Norfolk's been expanding its cruise terminal, and it's a sensible alternative if you're in NC, VA, or TN and don't want the airfare. The city itself is worth a night — the Chrysler Museum, the waterfront, the naval base.
Boston, Massachusetts — Brilliant Lady's New England base on her non-Alaska sailings. Boston is a walkable cruise homeport — Faneuil Hall, the Freedom Trail, Harvard across the river in Cambridge, and the North End for Italian. The cruise terminal is in the Seaport, with hotels and restaurants right next door.
San Juan, Puerto Rico — Our home. When VV calls in San Juan as a port (which it does on most Caribbean itineraries that include the Eastern or Southern Caribbean), the ship docks at the Old San Juan piers. You can walk straight off the gangway into one of the most beautiful historic cities in the Americas. The forts, the food, the rum bars at La Factoría, the blue-cobblestone streets. Even with all the new homeports, Miami remains the best embarkation experience on Virgin Voyages, and it's not particularly close. Terminal V is a dedicated VV terminal — not a shared cruise terminal where multiple lines fight for gate space, but a Virgin-branded space with the Sip & Sail bar, fast wifi, the right music, and a check-in process that often gets Sailors onboard within 20 minutes of arrival. They've genuinely designed boarding day as part of the brand experience.
It's also a flight Miami — meaning if you're flying in from anywhere in the US, MIA and FLL are some of the best-connected airports in the country with the most flight options at the most reasonable prices. Drive-to-port is also good — South Florida sailings draw a lot of Floridians who don't fly at all.
For New York Sailors, the Manhattan and Brooklyn terminals are a bit more standard cruise-terminal experiences (shared with other lines), but the upside is sailing past the Statue of Liberty on departure, which never gets old.
