The Grog Walk is Virgin Voyages’ answer to the question: how do you help 2,800 strangers become friends by the end of their first night? The answer, it turns out, is a guided pub crawl led by the Happenings Cast, with four bar stops, signature cocktails at each, light snacks, interactive missions, and masks to identify your fellow Grog Walkers as you move through the ship.

It sounds like a lot. It is, in the best possible way.
What Is the Grog Walk?

The Grog Walk is a ticketed event — $50 per Sailor — that takes a group of Sailors on a progressive bar crawl across four venues on the ship. At each stop, a signature cocktail (or mocktail alternative for non-drinkers) is served with a short presentation by the bartender, a mix-and-mingle activity, and light snacks. The Happenings Cast leads the group from venue to venue, keeping the energy up and the group together. There is literally a designated caboose at the back to make sure no one gets left behind.
The $50 covers all four drinks, the snacks, and the experience. For Sailors who drink, the math works easily in their favor. For Sailors who don’t, the social experience and the ship exploration are worth considering independently of the drinks.
The Route

Venues rotate but a typical Grog Walk moves through four of the ship’s bars and lounges, often starting at Razzle Dazzle’s bar, moving to Pink Agave (where the off-menu margarita has become legendary), continuing to The Loose Cannon, and often ending at or near The Manor for the PJ Party or late-night dancing. The exact route may vary by sailing and ship — the Happenings Cast will guide you.
Why Do It on Night One?
The Grog Walk is almost always offered on Night 1 of a sailing, and doing it then is strongly recommended for two reasons. First, Night 1 is typically the quietest evening of any Virgin Voyages voyage — people are tired from travel, the big themed parties haven’t happened yet, and the ship energy is still building. The Grog Walk injects genuine momentum into what would otherwise be a slow first evening. Second, the people you meet on the Grog Walk become your de facto cruise friends for the rest of the sailing. Finding your people on Night 1 changes the entire arc of a voyage.
Important: Bar Tab Does Not Cover Grog Walk
This catches people off guard. The Grog Walk is an “experience” in Virgin Voyages’s payment structure, not individual drinks, which means your Bar Tab credit cannot be applied. The $50 must be paid from Sailor Loot or a credit card. Plan accordingly when calculating your onboard budget.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- Book it the moment you board. Grog Walk fills fast — sometimes within hours of boarding. Open the app immediately on embarkation day and secure your spot.
- Talk to the Happenings Cast during Grog Walk. They are your inside track to the best experiences on your specific sailing. A genuine conversation with them early in the voyage pays dividends all week.
- Non-drinkers are welcome. Every stop has a non-alcoholic alternative. The social value of Grog Walk exists completely independently of the alcohol.
