The Sub-Types
Solo Insider: Designed for one person. Compact, with a three-quarter-sized bed and a layout optimized for a single Sailor. No solo supplement on select sailings — check current promotions. Note that Solo Insider cabins are sometimes excluded from promotional discounts.
Standard Insider: Sleeps two, with a Seabed that converts from a sofa configuration to a sleeping arrangement. The design is clever but takes adjustment — some couples find the bed setup less comfortable than a traditional mattress layout.
Social Insider: Sleeps up to four, with two singles and two Pullman-style bunk beds. Purpose-built for groups who want to sail together on a budget. Comes with a games console. Located on Deck 5.
Who the Insider Is For
Be honest with yourself. If you’re the kind of traveler who is out of the cabin from 8am until midnight — at ports, at restaurants, at shows, at The Manor, at the pool — then the Insider cabin is an intelligent choice. You’re paying for the Virgin Voyages experience, not a room with a view. The money you save on the cabin can fund Bar Tab, Shore Things, or a Treat Yourself upgrade at dinner.
If you’re someone who wakes up slowly with morning coffee and an ocean view, or who retreats to the cabin for afternoon rest, or who values the balcony hammock as a core part of the cruise experience — the Insider is wrong for you. Step up to a Sea View or Sea Terrace.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- The mood lighting is genuinely good. An Insider cabin with the right mood lighting setting is more pleasant than you might expect for a windowless room. Experiment with the tablet controls on embarkation night.
- Book an Insider on a short sailing to test it. A 4 or 5-night Caribbean sailing is a low-risk way to discover whether windowless works for you before committing to a 7-night voyage.
- Use the savings strategically. The price gap between Insider and Sea Terrace is meaningful. On shorter sailings especially, that gap can fund a spa treatment, a Bo Ssam dinner at Gunbae, or additional Bar Tab.
