Every cruise line in the world has a buffet. It’s one of the defining features of traditional cruise dining — massive, chaotic, and impersonal. Virgin Voyages looked at the buffet and said no thank you. The Galley is what they built instead, and it’s a significantly better idea.

The Galley is a food hall. Multiple made-to-order stations, each serving a different cuisine, all day long — fresh food prepared when you order it, not sitting under heat lamps waiting for you. No self-serve trays. No chaos. Just a casual, well-executed dining space that covers everything from morning coffee to late-night cravings.

What’s in The Galley

The Galley houses an impressive range of stations under one roof:
- A dedicated bakery and pastry shop
- A panini shop
- A burger grill (with a rotating burger of the day)
- A taco shack
- A sushi bar with bento boxes
- A noodle bar
- A soup and salad stand
- A 24-hour American diner
Two different menus rotate across the voyage at The Galley, with Menu A typically available at the start of the sailing. Ask a server for specifics on your sailing.

The Grounds Club — Virgin Voyages’s onboard coffee shop — operates out of The Galley area, serving specialty hot and iced coffee drinks throughout the day. On Scarlet Lady and Brilliant Lady, Grounds Club Too transforms into a cocktail bar in the evenings.

When to Use The Galley
The Galley is your go-to for any meal that isn’t a sit-down reservation. Morning coffee and pastry before a port day. A quick lunch between activities. A late-night snack after a show at The Red Room. It’s also the default option on embarkation day before your other reservations kick in.
The food quality is significantly better than a traditional cruise buffet. Made-to-order means freshness, and the variety across stations means there’s always something that works regardless of dietary preferences.

No Buffets, Period
It’s worth emphasizing what The Galley is not: it is not a self-serve buffet. There are no trays, no sneeze guards, no steam tables of food that’s been sitting out for two hours. Everything is ordered and prepared fresh at each station. Virgin Voyages made a deliberate commitment to eliminating the buffet model, and The Galley is the result.
Insider Tips from Joel and Erin
- Check the burger of the day board. The rotating burger specials at The Galley are a hidden highlight — worth checking each morning to see what’s coming for lunch.
- The bakery is excellent for early morning departures. Port days that start early are much better with a fresh pastry and proper coffee from The Galley before you disembark.
- Use it for lunch, not just snacks. The full station lineup at The Galley makes it a genuinely satisfying lunch option on sea days when you don’t want a formal sit-down meal.
