West Coast Cruising on Virgin Voyages: LA, Seattle, and the Pacific Coast Complete Guide

Virgin Voyages has never sailed the US West Coast before 2026. The Brilliant Lady’s spring and summer deployment to Los Angeles and Seattle represents an entirely new chapter for the fleet — and for West Coast travelers who have wanted the VV experience without a cross-country flight to Miami. This guide covers everything you need to know about the West Coast sailing season, the ports, the itineraries, and how the Pacific VV experience differs from the Caribbean and Mediterranean programs.

The Homeports

Los Angeles (April–May 2026): Brilliant Lady homeports at PortLA near San Pedro, approximately 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The Mexican Riviera, California Coastal, and Pacific sailings all depart from here. Pre-cruise LA options: Venice Beach, Santa Monica, the Getty, and some of the best food in North America.

Seattle (May–September 2026): Brilliant Lady transitions to Seattle for the Alaska season. The port of Seattle embarkation point is the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal near Magnolia. Pre-cruise Seattle: Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Capitol Hill, and the best coffee on earth.

The West Coast Itineraries

  • LA MerMaiden (5 nights): Inaugural Los Angeles sailing with exclusive first-sailing programming.
  • California Dreamin’ (6 nights): West Coast coastal sailing with California port calls.
  • Mexican Riviera (7 nights): Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, and Pacific Mexico.
  • Hollywood Sunsets (7 nights): Extended LA departure with California and Baja ports.
  • LA to Vancouver (8 nights): Pacific Coast voyage through Catalina, San Francisco, Astoria, and Victoria BC.
  • Alaska sailings from Seattle (7–10 nights): Multiple itineraries through Southeast Alaska. See the dedicated Alaska guide.

How West Coast VV Differs

The Pacific Coast sailing experience is genuinely different from Caribbean or Mediterranean VV. The ocean is larger and more powerful, the weather is more variable, the ports have a distinct West Coast character, and the wildlife encounters — gray whales on the California coast, humpbacks in Mexican waters, orcas and brown bears in Alaska — are different from anything available in the Atlantic routing.

Insider Tips from Joel and Erin

  • First-season advantage. West Coast inaugural sailings have smaller repeat-Sailor populations, meaning less competition for restaurant reservations and more elbow room throughout the ship. The energy of a first-season sailing is distinctive.
  • Pack for variable Pacific weather. The California Coast in spring can be cool and foggy — pack a light layer regardless of the destination. Alaska requires serious cold-weather preparation.
  • Book Brilliant Lady for the West Coast. She’s the only VV ship homeporting on the Pacific. The inaugural season pricing tends to be favorable and the energy is extraordinary.
